Bitmap typography is honest about what it is. Every modern font is a mathematical abstraction of curves rendered to pixels. Bitmap fonts skip the abstraction. They say: I am made of squares, arranged on a grid, and that's enough.

There's something I find compelling about that directness. No pretense of smoothness. Just the grid, the glyph, and the meaning you bring to it.
